Geoffrey Chaucer
Geoffrey Chaucer is one of the most
important figures in english literature. He was the first great poet in english literature. Before him, most literature works
were written in latin.
Geoffrey Chaucer was born in London, in the early 1340s. He was the son of a ?vintner?.
He married
in 1366. Chaucer was often employed on diplomatic missions to different countries, which influenced him and his work. He gained
the knowledge of the worlds and other peoples society, that made it possible for him to write "The Canterbury Tales".
In 1960, he was with the army of France, under Edward III reign, but he was captured by the French. He was
later let go after his captives were paid ransom by the king himself.
